Where are you hosting your Ultimento store?

We often get asked for recommendations or suggestions for hosting companies that host Magento sites. If you want your Magento site to run smoothly and to load fast, you will need a Magento Optimized Hosting service.

There are a lot of options when looking for hosting companies which are optimized for Magento. We don’t test all and don’t want to recommend one over the other but we have several clients who are happy with Nexcess and we have our own demo store hosted with Nexcess Magento Hosting. They are one of the few dedicated Magento hosting providers and have a shared hosting plan starting as low as $24.95/month. They also provide good customer support.

Other Ultimento and Magento customers use Media Temple, Site 5, Hostgator, and TMD Hosting which all offer a variety of hosting plans. Hostgator and Site 5, in fact, have a Magento package but we have not tested it yet. Please let us know your experiences by posting a comment below!

How do I install Magento?

Here are a few links and instructions for installing the Magento Community Edition:

 

  1. We recommend you use the latest stable release (1.6.x) which you can download here.
  2. Please refer to Magento’s installation instructions on how to install Magento properly.
  3. If you want sample data to set up the store, please download this from Magento’s own site and follow the instructions here.

Magento announces dates for 2012 annual conference

We are very excited about the upcoming Magento conference in Las Vegas which was announced yesterday. Our entire team will be there to hear about their latest product offerings and new plans as well as learn about the best-of-breed e-commerce features that can help our own customers.
