How do I use Ultimento’s Language Flags extension?

Language Flags Magento Extension

Example from the demo

Ultimento has a lot of custom Magento extensions built-in. I mean really a lot. One of them is the premium Language Flags Magento extension! This plugin adds a highly demanded functionality to Magento: flag icons for the language switcher!

If you run a multilingual Magento store, small flag images will automatically appear on the upper right corner and your users can easily switch from one language to another.

We made it particularly easy to use:

All you have to do is follow these 2 simple steps:

1. Create and/or manage your store views in your Magento admin via:

System > Manage Stores

To use Magento’s multiple language functionality, all you need is several Store Views under a single “Store”. Each Store View will correspond to a specific language of your choice.

2. For each Store View “code”, use the appropriate country code.

In short, all you have to do to enable the language flags is use the appropriate country codes as the Store Views “codes” in the Magento admin. The flags will automatically show up on the site’s front end! That’s it. Pretty simple huh?

The Country Flag Magento extension works with all countries and you can have unlimited languages.

Note: we’ve also included an alternative code for the Store View switcher for customers who don’t use Store Views for multilingual stores and would rather have a standard drop-down field.

If you have any questions regarding Ultimento’s Language Flags extension, post it below!

    hello,
    I got the following setup:
3 store with each 3 store views. so 9 store views in total.
I want every store to have an english store, a dutch store and a german store. the problem is that when I try to enter the country codes for the different store view codes I get the message the code is already in use. please advise.

Hi Tom – in Magento each Store View needs to have a unique code so if you want to have several Store Views with the same language flag within your Magento installation you’ll need to do some minor customization.

Basically you can simply duplicate the flag image you want to re-use and use the new file-name as the Store View’s code. The Flag images are located in your skin folder ;) .

      I hope this helps!

I added a couple of languages to the 3 “out of box” languages. The “icons” are not displaying. What am I doing wrong?

Also I followed the instructions regarding country code for the languages. However, I am unclear as to what exactly to do in regards to a language like Spanish. Spanish is spoken in a lot of countries. I would like to sell to other countries, but also I need Spanish for the US. What is the correct settings?

Hi… I added the code GB for the UK into the store view and i get the following error message..

The store code may contain only letters (a-z), numbers (0-9) or underscore(_), the first character must be a letter

    Am I missing something ? :)

      Hi Ian,

If you look at Magento’s documentation for languages it requires you use lower case. That should do the trick!

      Thanks,
      Support
