How do I install Ultimento?
You’re just 60 seconds away from having Ultimento installed! Let’s get to it.
Requirements:
First, let’s make sure you know about the requirements – all you need is the free Magento platform installed and an FTP access:
- Magento Free Community Edition version 1.4.x, 1.5.x, or 1.6.x (clean install).
We recommend the latest stable release which you can download here. Please refer to Magento’s installation instructions on how to install Magento properly. - FTP access to the root folder of your Magento installation.
You can use any free FTP software. - If you want sample data, please download this from Magento’s own site and follow the instructions here.
Installation:
Temporarily disable Magento cache
To avoid any possible issues with the installation we recommend disabling Magento cache before proceeding with the installation and re-enabling it once the install is complete (60 seconds later
).
- Log in to your Magento admin
- Access System > Cache Management
- Click on “Select All” and in the “Actions” drop down select “Disable”
- Click on “Submit” and once the page reloads log out of the admin
Upload Ultimento files
Using your favorite FTP client, upload all files and folders inside the folder “ultimento” (which is inside the folder “ultimento-2.x.x”) to the root folder of your Magento installation. Just to be clear, that means that you’ll be uploading the following 3 folders and their content:
- app
- js
- skin
We recommend you do one folder at a time. This will merge the Ultimento files into your Magento installation. You will be asked to overwrite boxess.css which you have to do.
1-click installer
- In your Magento admin under CMS > Pages delete any “home” page you may have (or rename the identifier to something else).
- Go to Ultimento > Installer and select the Store View where you want to install Ultimento (this is relevant only if you have more than 1 store view)
- Click “Install Now” and wait until the page reloads and displays the confirmation message.
Validate your copy of Ultimento:
- In your Magento admin, click on Ultimento > Settings
- On the upper left corner, under “Current Configuration Scope” select your store view (lowest scope level)
- Under “Ultimento serial” un-check the “use website” check-box and enter your unique serial code that was sent to your email and click on “Save Config”
Troubleshooting
If you are experiencing a problem or get an error message in the Magento admin, that means you didn’t carefully follow the installation instructions
. You may have missed a step or overlooked something – go through this checklist to double check:
It could be the cache…
- Make sure you have the Magento compilation disabled under “System > Tools > Compilation”
- Refresh all Magento cache and re-index all data (it may not be enough to have the cache disabled)
- Log out of the admin and log back in
It could be an issue with the serial number…
- Double check that your Ultimento serial is correct for your Base URL
- Make sure you saved your serial number under the correct store view scope.

Hi,
I’m getting the following error message when I try to perform the “One Click Install”:
“A page URL key for specified store already exists.”
I’m guessing it has something to do with me making two different purchases on the same account?
Hi Miguel – this can occur if you try to install Ultimento on a Store View where it is already installed. Try using the 1-click un-install feature, clear cache, logout/log back in, and run the 1-click installer again.
I hope this helps!
I’m afraid I’m getting the same problem. Any other suggestions?
I used these methods to flush the cache:
http://www.noamdesign.com/blog/magento-how-to-refresh-cache/
The curious thing is that Ultimento is working on the most part. The only error I’ve spotted so far is that on the home page it doesn’t load the custom page:
“There was no Home CMS page configured or found.”
Try this:
1. Run Ultimento’s 1-click uninstall feature at
Ultimento > 1-Click Installer.2. Navigate to
CMS > Manage Pagesand delete all of Ultimento’s CMS pages, including the home page.3. Go to
CMS > Static Blocksand delete all of Ultimento’s static blocks. In particular make sure thefooter_tabsblock is deleted.4. Go back to
Ultimento > 1-Click Installerand run the auto-installer.That should reset everything and ensure you have a clean Ultimento install
.
Hi, I get the same error. But my ultimento is working I think?
I just followed the installation process step-by-step. And when I saw that “A page URL key for specified store already exists”-error, I just thought that was the “confirmation message”. And I just proceed every other step. But when I want to view my frontpage it says:
“There was no Home CMS page configured or found.”
Is that normal?
I use magento 1.6.0.0 (clean install)
This worked for me:
1. Run Ultimento’s 1-click uninstall feature at Ultimento > 1-Click Installer.
.
2. Navigate to CMS > Manage Pages and delete all of Ultimento’s CMS pages.
3. Go to CMS > Static Blocks and delete all of Ultimento’s static blocks.
4. Go back to Ultimento > 1-Click Installer and run the auto-installer.
That should reset everything and ensure you have a clean Ultimento install
I was typing my message when you posted that solution. Thanks anyway
I’ve just re-installed and it’s completed the installation correctly! The error message did not appear and now I have all the custom pages. Thanks for the help.
I have run the above instructions, but my site hasn’t changed, do I have to select the ultimento theme in the configuration/design/themes section of the magento admin?
Oops, Found the answer,
http://ultimento.com/wiki/support/troubleshooting/i-installed-ultimento-but-my-store-still-uses-the-default-theme-why/#content
I have tried all of the above. I have followed all of the directions precisely. I am using Magento 1.6 and keep getting the same error when trying to install “A page URL key for specified store already exists”! Please Advise. I have flushed the cache, disabled compilation. uninstalled and reinstalled, but continue to get the same error.
Also just keep in mind that i have not changed the name servers to point to the new host yet. I have just changed the IP in my windows host file. I am not sure why i am getting this message when i have followed the directions pretty clearly. Do i need to add the serial number prior to the install?
Trying to upload files.
Have disabled cache, downloaded ultimento folder, but when I uploaded the files, the connection timed out at roughly 30% completion.
Now when I retry, it will start and then toolbar.php will have an error,
The destination already has a file named ‘toolbar.php’
Existing File: 0 bytes
New File: 757 bytes
Replace > Skip > Abort
I click replace and get the following message..
An error ocurred copying ‘Toolbar.php’
425 Unable to build data connection: Connection timed out
And I cannot go any farther.
Hi Brett – you need to contact your host and ask them why you can’t upload files to your server. You need to be able to upload files in order to install Ultimento – if the connection times out using an FTP tool that’s not normal and your hosting company should help you with this.
Hi Noam
I purchased untimento and installed it. But I want to keep the current theme and use other features of untimento (SEO, discussion etc.), what should I do?
Hi Mike,
Some of the Magento extensions included in Ultimento are built-in the theme so these you won’t be able to use them on another theme (unless you’re familiar with Magento programming and spend some time “migrating” these extensions from Ultimento’s Magento themes to your own theme).
Magento extensions that are not integrated within the theme can be used as “stand alone” extensions, even when using another Magento theme. That’s the case for most of the extensions included in Ultimento. All you have to do for that is follow the normal procedure to install Ultimento and then navigate to your Magento admin under
System > Configuration > Design > Theme(under the correct configuration scope) and change the “ultimento” values with your own theme name.I hope this helps!
THanks for the reply. What features are theme related?
I have followed the instructions to install and I get the “A page URL key for specified store already exists” error and now my site shows “There was no Home CMS page configured or found.”
I have tried ALL the suggestions above and none of them work.
I have deleted Magento and re-installed from scratch and tried again, same error!
Can anyone help?
Hi Simon – I just looked at your site and I see that Ultimento is installed properly there so I’m assuming you figured it out.
For reference, the message you were getting on the frontend means that the Home page wasn’t set in your Magento admin. This can be caused if you fail to run Ultimento’s auto-installer (which creates the demo home page as a placeholder for your own content).
Hi, I have followed the instruction to install. There is no problem in the installation, but none of my products showed up afterwards. I have checked that the “set as new” date have been correctly set.
Hi Pei – Ultimento doesn’t affect the catalog in any way so the source of your issue lies somewhere else. Did you create a new Store in your Magento to install Ultimento? If so did you make sure that this store uses the proper root catalog where your products are setup? And are your products set to be enabled on your new store?
Also did you make sure to clear all Magento cache and re-index all data?
Hope this helps!
Yes, it appears to have installed. However, I dont have any of the test categories / products? (I really wanted them so I could teach myself how to set things up).
Hi Simon – please see my previous answer about the sample catalog data that’s shown on the demo.
Also, I don’t appear to be able to change themes – I select “New” and the colours don’t change on the main site?
Hi Simon – please check my previous answer about the theme change – I’m pretty sure it’ll solve your problem
.
Hello Noam
Can you please tell me where the ultimento installer is, in the admin area of magento
“Log in your Magento admin and access Ultimento > Installer”
i have installed your 3 folders into the root of my magento installation at
public_html\magento
app
js
skin
but i can not see where the ultimento installer is, in the admin panel
Hi Paul – did you follow the instructions carefully? Most likely it’s either an issue where the files weren’t uploaded properly, or the Magento cache not cleared. Or perhaps you forgot to logout of the Magento admin and log back in?
Please try going over the installation instructions again, making sure you’re not overlooking any steps, and if you’re still having problems feel free to open a new ticket via your account center’s help desk with your Magento admin and FTP info and we can take a look for you.
Just bought Ultimento and set up a fresh install of Magento 1.6.0 on a dev server to get set up. Followed instruction exactly. Installed Magento, disabled cache, logged out of admin.
Uploaded and merged Ultimento’s 3 folders into the root of my install.
Logged into admin and ran 1 click install.
Got error, “A page URL key for specified store already exists.”
Part of theme shows up anyways, only default. No pages exists, everything is 404, and theme changes have no effect. I am pretty confused here… I have flushed cache even though it is disabled, and cleared browser cache, no effect on theme change. But I am more concerned about the error on install and no pages.
Hi Ryan – It sounds like your Magento Store View probably already had a home page set up. Ultimento’s 1-click Installer is designed not to overwrite any files, so that would kill the process.
Log in to your Magento Admin Panel and navigate to CMS > Pages and delete the home page for this store view. Then go to CMS > Static Blocks and delete “Footer_Tabs” if it exists. That will probably fix your issue and you should be able to try installing again, but before you do, run through this installation troubleshooting checklist just to be sure.
Let me know if you continue to have a problem installing your software. Thanks!
-Greg
Thanks Greg, that was it. Suggestion, maybe put that step in the intall instructions, to delete the current home page if you have one to save it from blowing up?
The install went fine but when I hit the 1 click installer it says:
A page URL key for specified store already exists.
And I can not add any theme changes, or anything for that matter.
Justin
Hi Justin – please see the previous answer to the same question above
.
hi, have uploaded via ftp, but can’t see “ultmento” anywhere to click the “1 click extension”.
Have followed the additional instructions (eg clearing cache), but still no luck.
Any ideas?
Hi Paul – check out the first question/answer on the FAQ page
.
I don’t have any “Uninstall” tool under Ultimento > 1-Click Install or anywhere else in the Admin?
It should be there
. Also it will only show up if you have Ultimento installed on a Store View.
I do have it installed on a Store view, but it’s not there…
Open a new ticket via the help desk in your account center and include your FTP and Magento admin info and we’ll take a look for you
.
Does the cache need to be re-enabled after installing?
Hey Mike – yes definitely (for improved performance). Just like it says on the installation instructions
.
I followed the instructions, very carefully, and triple checked that everything was performed the correct way. However, upon logging into Magento Admin, I receive the following error:
It looks like Ultimento isn’t properly setup at “default”! Make sure all the files are uploaded and make sure your serial is correct for this storeview.
And soon as I browse to any other page in the admin the error goes away.
Please help.
Hey Tom – if you did upload all the files properly then the only other possibility is that your serial number doesn’t match the URL you use in your Magento installation. Take a few minutes to go through this troubleshooting checklist – that usually solves this kind of problems
.

Once you sign up for the free trial just open a new ticket via the help desk in your account center and we’ll take it from there
.
Hi there !
I went for the max package over the weekend.
I just wanted to let you know that as I was transferring th ‘skin’ folder, Filezilla flagged me for confirming overwriting a ‘boxes.css’ file. (I am running a fresh 1.6.1)
I overwrote. Don’t know If I did right. Just wanted to let you know since you mention not to worry for overwriting.
Hello again,
I notice that quite a lot of my (french) translation is broken after installing Ultimento.
Surprisingly this happens not only for new words introduced by your package (which I could understand), but it seems to affect also words that belong to Magento basic features.
I asked on the live chat a few days before buying wether Ultimento would be compatible with the french language pack and I was answered “Yes 100%”
I am a bit disappointed. Anyone can help on how to fix that ?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Paul,
With the right installation this shouldn’t have happened (and we have several non-English customers who have used Ulitmento). Please submit a ticket through your account center and we will work with you to fix this.

Hi,
I followed the instructions a few times, 1st locally, then on testserver, uploading files several times, and I still get 404 error when clicking on Ultimento > 1-click installer. Why? Cannot install theme. Magento 1.6.0.0
Hi Mat,
Can you please submit a ticket through the account center. Please provide details on where you see the error. It could be a set-up issue with Magento itself.
Regards,
Support
It’s ok now, client didn’t send me all files
i have the same problem it does not work with different stores…
keeps giving serial error
Hi Tom,
Ultimento certainly supports installation on multiple stores, in fact you can see it running on our demo site. You may want to check out our post on serial number invalid issues.
