How do I edit CMS pages?

Magento has a very nice CMS which allows you to manage and edit the content pages on your store, including the home page. Here again Ultimento harnesses the power of Magento and significantly improves the platform – this time making it really easy for store owners to generate important CMS pages in a matter of minutes while making sure these web pages load fast and follow the best SEO practices.

CMS page templates

One of Ultimento’s most appreciated features is that it comes pre-loaded with tons of pages and data. For example, Ultimento includes the following CMS page templates:

You can use everything that comes in these CMS pages – which is invaluable! Follow the formatting and change the text and images with your own, or even use our text! (Which can come very handy for example for the copyright and privacy pages.)

Editing the CMS pages

Magento’s CMS includes a WYSIWYG editor which is great if you create a new page and want to write simple content in it. But there are a few drawbacks to using the built-in editor – one of them is that it has trouble handling more complex HTML content.

There are some tricks to avoid bugs in the Magento editor but there is a better way! Namely, to put the content for the CMS pages in separate HTML files which you can then easily edit with any HTML editor. And that’s what we’ve done for Ultimento ;) . The HTML files are all located in this folder:

app/design/frontend/default/ultimento/template/page/cms/

All files are easily labeled – have fun editing them and customizing your Ultimento!

If you have any questions regarding how to edit Ultimento’s CMS pages, post it below!

    Hi Noam,

How do I edit CMS pages in a multi store milieu, where the content differs from shop to shop?

    Thanks!

    Helloooooo?? :-)

      Hi Bjarne,

Sorry for the delay but we are looking into it. We are not sure that Magento supports this. Will hopefully have an answer for you soon.

      Regards,
      Support

  3. Bjarne says:

Ok. Looking forward to your answer.

I don’t see how Magento cannot support editing of CMS pages in a multi store milieu (the shop system is build to support many stores oprated by the same backend administration).
Do you mean that Ultimento does not support the editiong og CMS pages in a multi store milieu?
    Thanks!

    Best regards,
    Bjarne

In order NOT to lose all my changes on a future upgrade, I guess that if I start editing these CMS pages, and I am using, say, the white subtheme, I should first copy all files into ultimentocustom folder and edit there. Did I get it right ?

    Any news?

Hmmm… strange things are happening after Noam left the building; now all my Ultimento shops looks like this: gavebordet.dk

    Anybody else having problems??

  7. Justin says:

Where do I change the path to the cms pages so they don’t say about-ultimento for the url? I went into the backend in magento to the cms static pages but when i make a change to the url it gives me a error because of the path.

    • Support says:

      Hey Justin,

If you change the name of any of the pages in the Magento admin all you have to do is find the other pages (generally header and footer pages) with old links to the old page name and update them accordingly. Depending on what page the link is on you can find these in other Magento “pages” and sometimes directly in the CMS pages on your server (i.e. app/design/frontend/default/ultimento/template/page/cms/footer-tabs.html to edit the footers).

      Thanks,
      Support

how come when i edit the about.html (haven’t tried others) and then upload it back to the site it doesn’t reflect any changes? I am using the new template on a custom setup. I copied the template files over to the appropriate folder and changed the about.html file in that folder. When that didn’t work, I changed the one under the ultimento folder as well. Any ideas? I’m sure it is something simple on my end, but I’ve always seen changes instantly. Thanks.

  9. Nick says:

    Do i need to change anything here: {{block type=”core/template” template=”page/cms/about.html”}}

It seems that the templating system wouldn’t have an issue with it, but I’m just checking any possibilities. Thanks.

  10. Nick says:

I have reindexed and flushed the caches as well.

    • Support says:

      Hey Nick,

First off, make sure you’re properly copying over all the files to the Ultimentocustom folder as described in our guide on customizing Ultimento. That should give you everything you need and you don’t have to worry about editing any blocks.

Also make sure you’ve flushed not just the Magento cache, but your browsers as well. If you still have problems open up a ticket with us and we can take a look.

      Thanks,
      Support

I have already submitted a ticket, just waiting on a response. Thanks.

  12. Mike says:

Very new to this…I’m just installed ultimento white. If I’m editing cms pages, do I edit those in the app/design/frontend/default/ultimento/template/page/cms/ (as indicated above) or should I change that to app/design/frontend/default/ultimentowhite/template/page/cms/

It’s just that I may want to change the ultimento theme later so don’t really want to have to go back over the editing process if I do.
    Thanks
    Mike

    • Support says:

      Hey Mike,

Actually, you don’t want to edit either of those files but instead copy over the files you do want to edit (from the ultimentowhite folder if that’s the template you want to work off of) to the Ultimentocustom folder. This will allow you to make all the changes you want without worrying about future updates to the software. We have a whole guide you should check out on how to edit Ultimento while keeping it upgrade safe.

      Hope that helps.

      Thanks,
      Support

  13. Sachie says:

    Hi guys,
Would it be possible to provide me with the default design CMS code for the default flash homepage? I overwrote it with the alternative java version and lost the features section.

    Cheers
    Sachie

    • Support says:

      Hey Sachie,

You can always grab any of the original code from the download section of your admin account. Just re-download the .zip file and you’ll have access to all of the original code.

If you’re still having problems finding something in particular, like the flash code, just open up a ticket and we can send you the code through there.

      Thanks,
      Support

  14. Jeff says:

Hello, I do not have a CMS directory at the end of the path you listed: app/design/frontend/default/ultimento/template/page/cms/
In page/ I have an html folder, a switch folder and 4 phtml files. Please advise.

    Jeff

    • Support says:

      Hey Jeff,

If you can’t find the folder and files there perhaps they were never copied over or accidentally got deleted at some point. Can you try copying the files over again from your original install .zip file?

      Thanks,
      Brandon
