UK Has World’s Most Internet Focused Economy
March 20, 2012
A report released by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) calculated the Internet economies of the G20 to reach $4.2 trillion by 2016. That’s a pretty staggering number when you think about it. By that time nearly 3 BILLION people will be online, almost half the world’s population.
The blistering expansion of the Internet is without precedence. Virtually non-existent as an industry 20 years ago, Internet related commerce now represents 8.3% of the UK economy, more than any other G20 member. In the United States more than $68 billion of GDP is attributable to the Internet industry.
There’s no doubt that the success of ecommerce is one of the largest contributing factors to this rapid growth. Companies like Amazon, eBay, and even little Magento have made it incredibly easy for sellers to reach customers and enable safe, simple transactions.
There’s a lot going on so get your stores and products up now! There are 3 billion people waiting to see what you have to offer.
