Free Magento extension: Disable Admin Notifications

Tired of all these popup notifications that show up when you login your Magento admin? This free Magento extension will give you control over whether or not they appear! You can now easily disable admin notifications in your Magento.

A little background

Magento CE is great. It’s the best eCommerce platform out there (I’m talking about the free and 100% open source Community Edition of Magento and not the paid “professional” and “enterprise’ editions of Magento which we don’t support).

There is however one detail that’s really annoying in the Magento admin – the notification feature. Every time you login notifications show up in a popup – and it will keep showing up unless you navigate to “System > Notifications” and either delete the notifications or mark them as read.

I agree that some notifications are important. Like notifications on new Magento CE stable releases for example. But alpha and beta releases, as well promotional notifications, should be optional.

Solution: the Disable Admin Notifications extension

We decided to take matters into our own hands and code a very simple extension to give control over the admin notifications back to who they belong: you!

Here’s what the extension’s settings look like in the Magento admin:

Pretty simple huh?

Download the Disable Admin Notifications free extension

We decided to release this very small extension for free. Download it and install it by following the standard procedure:

First things first:

  1. Login your Magento admin
  2. Navigate to “System > Cache Management” and DISABLE ALL CACHE
  3. If you have the compilation enabled, make sure to disable it
  4. Log out of the admin. Don’t forget this step when installing a Magento extension ;) .

Upload:

  1. Using any FTP client, upload THE CONTENT of the folder “step-1″ to your Magento root directory. NOT the folder itself – just the content!
  2. Then upload THE CONTENT of the folder “step-2″ to your Magento root directory. NOT the folder itself – just the content!
That’s it!

Now log back in your Magento admin and navigate to “System > Configuration > Control Admin Notifications” for the extension’s settings.

I hope you find this useful!
